Rainbow names master toy licensee for My American Friend

Italian animation studio and licensor Rainbow (Winx, Regal Academy, Mia and me) has teamed up with German toy manufacturer Simba Dickie Group to develop toys for its first full live-action production, My American Friend (working title), which is a new girls series about fashion and friendship.

As master toy licensee for the My American Friend property, Simba Dickie Group will produce a toy range for the European market inspired by fashion, music and role-play.

The new series tells the story of an ordinary American girl named Maggie, whose dream is to be the world's best fashion designer. On her 16th birthday, she becomes the youngest contestant ever to win a two-year scholarship to the Milan Fashion Academy, where she meets self-proclaimed Italian princess Bianca. United by their love for music and fashion, the two discover secrets that change their lives forever.

The series began shooting last September, a month before Rainbow acquired[2] Vancouver, Canada-based animation studio Bardel Entertainment.
